Neu-Isenburg, Germany, December 16, 2014 – The Dubai 24-hour race was launched in 2006, with current Mercedes-Benz Motorsport boss Toto Wolff and DMSB (Germany’s motor racing governing body) President and former german F1 legend Hans-Joachim Stuck among the team that drove a BMW M3 to victory at the inaugural event. Apart from BMW, only Porsche and Mercedes-Benz have won in Dubai thus far. Then as now, this motorsport event has the power to thrill with its diverse mix of spectacular GTs, fast touring cars and 24H specials. Amateur drivers and teams likewise remain a vital presence on the starting grid.
The 5.39km (3.35-mile) Dubai Autodrome ranks among the most advanced in the world. For drivers, its high-speed straights and 16 turns – some of them technically extremely challenging – demand the utmost concentration in every situation for a full 24 hours. Hankook Tire, which since 2011 has also been the exclusive tire partner of the DTM – the most popular international touring car series – comes to the race amply prepared thanks to its broad experience of numerous endurance events (Le Mans, 24h NBR). Approximately 100 race cars will equip Hankook’s slicks and wets – in sizes ranging from 17 inches for the compact touring cars to 19 inches for the biggest GT3 racers – will make their way to Dubai in 15 containers. “Dubai will see the Who’s Who of motorsport lined up on the grid,” says Manfred Sandbichler, Hankook’s Motorsport Director Europe. “We look forward to taking part in this anniversary event and, in our role as partner and supplier, supporting all teams with our know-how and high-performance tires.”
